RE: Camping: The Cause Of Many Social "Conditions"

I guess we've been really lucky. We haven't run into those types of situations before. We mainly camp at state parks. I feel the same way. Our state parks are beautiful and we rarely have the problems spoken of here. I just thought it was because I live in such a tree-hugging state! :)

I don't know what it is about that stretch of Hwy 101 -- there are LOTS of accidents there. Sad...

RE: Washington's Olympic Peninsula Free Campgrounds

Hey, folks, we are traveling this route in a couple days (counterclockwise from Sequim to Copalis on 101) and looking for a place to break it up along the way. Doesn't have to be free, but does have to accommodate a 38' 5er with 4 slides (we FT). Since DH still has a bad back (boy, is that getting old!), I'll be doing the backing in and would prefer someplace that does not resemble a cattle chute.
Does the Quileute Ind. Res. allow RVers? If I don't hear back from anyone, I'll probably go with the private CG called Hard Rain Cafe near the entrance to Hoh that I located thru rvreviews.com. Would appreciate any comments. Thanks all.
If you want full hookups and pull-thru sites, there's a decent sized RV Park right off Hwy 101 in the town of Forks. It's called the Forks 101 RV Park. I have to be honest, I've never actually stayed there but it's directly across the road from the main grocery store in Forks and it looks very decent from the outside. They've got wi-fi and satellite tv and all that stuff too.
If you're going for a more rural atmosphere you could try Bogachiel State Park which is a really pretty state park that's also right off of Hwy 101.
The Forks area would be a nice "halfway" point between Sequim and Copalis and it's a cute little town with lots of other parks and pretty sights nearby.
Hope you have FUN!!

RE: How do you cook for just one person?

Definitely get a couple of "cooking for two" cookbooks and eat the same thing two nights in a row, or freeze the 2nd portion for later in the week. The smaller recipes will help you learn to make smaller batches of things and perhaps give you some new ideas. I'd hit the library first, and then once I've found a couple of books that suit me I'd buy them to have on hand.
Also, AllRecipes has a whole section of "cooking for two" recipes, so you might want to check that out some time.
Happy camping!

RE: Quick and easy using fresh peaches?

Here is something very different. I know this sounds weird, but if you like blue cheese, give it a try, it's a really neat combo of flavors and it's really good!
Grilled Peaches
3 tablespoons white sugar
3/4 cup balsamic vinegar
2 teaspoons freshly ground black peppercorns
2 large fresh peaches with peel, halved and pitted
2 1/2 ounces blue cheese, crumbled
In a saucepan over medium heat, stir together the white sugar, balsamic vinegar, and pepper. Simmer until liquid has reduced by one half. It should become slightly thicker. Remove from heat, and set aside.
Preheat grill for medium-high heat.
Lightly oil the grill grate. Place peaches on the prepared grill, cut side down. Cook for about 5 minutes, or until the flesh is caramelized. Turn peaches over. Brush the top sides with the balsamic glaze, and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes.
Transfer the peach halves to individual serving dishes, and drizzle with remaining glaze. Sprinkle with crumbled blue cheese.

RE: Question for RV'ers

I honestly couldn't tell you whether my neighbors are in their rigs or not, because we're not around. And even if we are around, I truly do not notice what the people around me are doing unless it directly effects ME in some way. Otherwise, I mind my own business and I prefer neighbors that do the same.
We spend pretty much every waking moment hiking, biking, canoeing, geocaching or some other kind of outdoor fun. You'll likely only see us in the evening when we're cooking our dinner over the campfire while enjoying a margarita or a beer. Other than that you pretty much won't see us. That doesn't mean we're inside though. In fact, I can assure you that we're not.
I can't help but wonder if people who spend SO much time watching and pondering what other folks are doing -- are the ones who perhaps need a hobby?
And frankly, if they ARE inside, they're not bothering me, so I don't really care.

RE: NW Washington-Bainbridge CG

Personally, I would not stay at Eagle Tree RV Park.
My husband and I recently drove through there because we live nearby and had never really checked it out. The RVs were literally packed in like sardines. I mean EVERY available nook and cranny had an RV wedged into it. Awnings that were pulled out were only an inch or two from touching their neighboring RVs. I'm not exaggerating, we honestly couldn't believe how close the rigs were to each other. Maybe it was some kind of special weekend and it's not usually like that, I don't know. We were shocked that it got such good reviews, but then again, we don't care for most busy RV parks.
Now, obviously, some people don't mind that sort of thing, and someone clearly likes the park because it was packed to the gills. If you don't mind the crowdedness you might be perfectly happy there, but if you're more into a "State Park" sort of setting (like we are) then in my opinion you would be miserable at the Eagle Tree. No offense what so ever intended, just my two cents.
Fay Bainbridge is right on the water and awfully pretty...the sites are close together, but nothing like the Eagle Tree.

Oh gee thanks...... more calories! :B That's why we have them on FRIDAY -- we always spend all day Saturday hiking and geocaching, so it balances out the extra calories. At least, that's what I tell myself! :B

If you're going to make pie iron fruit pies -- you REALLY need one of these:
Ice Cream Ball
Hubby and I went on a kick where every Friday night of camping we'd make Ice Cream in our Ice Cream Ball to put on top of our Hot Apple Pie Iron Pies. Talk about H-E-A-V-E-N!!!!

Sliced Corned Beef
Sauerkraut

RE: Photos of our Favorite Black Kitties

What adorable kitty photos!
I'm afraid I don't have any black kitties. Right now we have a gray tabby named Maximus and tortoiseshell named Princess Cleo. Here they are playing in an antenna box that was actually about 10 feet long. We kept that box for over three months because they loved it so much. We cut a bunch of holes in the sides for kitty arms to stick through. They spent hours playing in or around it. It was too funny...

RE: Has anyone ever had their milk

I would be leaning towards a bad batch of milk like the others have said. It might not hurt to buy a $3 fridge thermometer and just regulate your temp a little closer. Also, there are people on the forum who talk about buying a small fridge fan to circulate the air. I don't have a fan but I'm sure some of the nice folks on here would be happy to give some info. Sour milk isn't a fun way to start the day!
